Impressive Week For longhorns

Jock Talk

More exciting happenings this past week involving Kimball High sports. The annual Booster Club Banquet and Awards Night was held and was a huge success thanks to the officers in charge. I was so impressed with the young people involved with the way they conduct themselves and how polished they are when asked to stand up front and talk. I remember my own days when I had to get up front and how hard it was to even get words out of my mouth. You young people impress me.

I was also impressed with Kimball’s performance at the Bayard B-C-D Track meet. We had several personal best performances and once again Brady Kilgore was right at the top as he was voted Most Outstanding Male Athlete and also won the coveted John Hohnstein Top Hurdler award. All of this on top of winning both hurdle races again, taking 2nd in the high jump and running on the 4 x 100 relay team that also placed.

Now it is off to Bayard again today (Thursday) if the weather permits for the district meet. Coach Gene Mohr is hoping to get as many kids qualified for the state meet as he possibly can. He took it easy on them this past week and held them out of some events to keep them fresh and ready. They certainly had some good performances last week. Track start time at districts is 10:30.

I was impressed one more time with the Kimball Boy’s Golf team as they shot their season low team score of 320 to win by 27 strokes over runner-up Perkins County. Week after week the three seniors on this year’s varsity team come through with top ten medal performance. They did it again on Monday with Dillon Wise 2nd, Zane Anthony 3rd, and Izaac Reuter 5th. And a tip of the golf cap to young sophomore Jess Heide-Sieren who came through with his career best round of 41-41=82 to finish 6th. I think our guys are ready to get the job done one more time at the district tournament in Cambridge this coming Monday. The three seniors want to make it to state all four years of their illustrious careers!

A tip of the cap also to the other two seniors, Jacob Walker and Jaren Winstrom for their leadership and team attitude as they have given their all through the years despite not playing a lot of varsity golf. They are both valuable team members and fine young men who give their best in all they do.

In local adult golf happenings, don’t forget the combined men’s scramble coming up May 19th so get signed up at the Four Winds Pro Shop.

Pat O’Brien asks me to remind anyone wishing to play in the Four Wind Men’s Monday-Tuesday night League to also get signed up. League play begins June 3-4. Call him at 235-5009.

Randy Bohac reminds golfers it is not too early to be thinking about the annual Father’s Day golf tournament. This is a 3 person scramble format.

Another date I just received this week you need to put on your golf calendars is the TeamMates golf tournament and that is set for June 6th at the Four Winds. Will give you more info on this worthwhile affair later.
