Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball High Boy's Golf Team took care of business one more time in winning their fourth straight District Championship Monday at the Cross Creek Golf Link in Cambridge. The three senior varsity golfers on the team have been a part of those four District titles and all three seniors were in the top ten medal group on Monday.
Kimball shot a team scores of 355 to win by 16 strokes over runner-up Perkins County with 371 with Valentine 3rd with 385. The top three teams advance to state play along with the top ten individuals. The remaining team scores were Mitchell 387, Bridgeport 392, Cambridge 394, Hershey 396, Sutherland 403, Morrill 422, Gordon-Rushville 442, Hi-Line 449, Bayard 460, Hemingford 464 and Chase County no team scores.
Carbaugh of Cambridge shot the winning individual round on his home course winning the medalist honors with a round of 73. Benjamin of Hershey was 2nd with 78, Drake DeMasters of Bridgeport 3rd with 79.
Dillon Wise led Kimball scorers with his round of 39-41=80 for 4th place. Zane Anthony shot 47-41=88 for 8th place and Izaac Reuter shot 48-42=90 to finish in a 3 way tie for 10th. Jess Heidi-Sieren had a round of 48-49=97 and Cole Henton shot 47-54=101.
Kimball coach Chad Wise said "It was a tough course and a real challenge for the golfers. The rough was long and the greens were smooth and fast. It tested our players but in the end we got the job done and we won." As for the weather conditions, it might have been the best the Kimball golfers have seen all season.
Now Wise, Anthony and Reuter get ready for their fourth consecutive State Tournament play which will take place this coming Tuesday-Wednesday, May 21-22 at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney. For the two sophomores, Henton and Heidi-Sieren, it will be their first state tournament play. Coach Wise and his team would like to close out the season with more solid play and perhaps bringing home more hardware for the Kimball High trophy case.
