Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
What goes around comes around.
Bob Mueller is back on his bike – but not the motorized one he made when he was 13 years old.
At 84, Mueller rides nine miles every other day in order to keep himself fit.
"I like to go early in the morning," he said. "Less traffic, less wind, and in the summer it is cooler."
He does the Hill Climb at Oregon Trail Days in July. It is a 1.6 mile hill climb to the top of the Scottsbluff National Monument. He has been the only participant in the 70 and over age category.
"I am the oldest one that does it," he said. "It is a grueling 1.6 mile,s takes me twice as long as it used to. You are going up hill all time; there is no rest. I am going to see how long I can do that hill climb."
The main reason Mueller wants to keep himself fit is so that he can attend dances and be able to dance continuously. He likes country western music, polkas, waltz, two step and the foxtrot.
He travels around to various towns and cities for dances – Sterling, Rapid City, Las Vegas, Colorado Springs and Ogallala. Most recently, he traveled to Humbolt, Iowa.
