Kimball sophomore Payton Wise picked up yet another medal, to add to her collection of hardware,at the Mitchell Invitational Golf Tournament held this past Thursday.
Payton, like almost all of the golfers, didn't shoot close to her top scores of the season, thanks in large part to a miserable windy day.
She finished 6th in the top ten medal group with her round of 46-44=90, but not that bad of a round considering the windy conditions, accourding to coach Katie Culek.
Maddie Cook was Kimball's only other golfer to chart a score shooting 62-62=124, also affected greatly by the wind conditions.
Coach Culek was without senior Carli Wurdeman, who tried to warm up but was unable to play due to an injury to her hand.
Katie Heeg attempted to play but had to also withdraw midway into her round with a shoulder problem.
The good news is that Heeg should be able to return to play this week, and the bad news is that it would appear that Wurdeman's season could be over as it was determined she had suffered a broken hand from a fall.
"It was a tough day for us" said coach Culek. "With two of our girls having to withdraw, and with the wind being so bad. It was so windy, extremely windy" Culek said.
Culek said considering the conditions, Payton shot a pretty good round.
Next up for the Kimball girls is the tournament in Ogallala on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and then the final warmup prior to District at Bridgeport on Sept. 26.
