Busy, Busy Times In Banner And Beyond

Good morning! Here we are beginning the last week in September, unbelievable!

And a busy time it is for sure. Today, September 26th the junior high football team will take on Guernsey at 2 p.m., home field. Come on out and support these young folks!

Then tomorrow, Friday, September 27th the high school football team will be heading to Oskosh to play the Garden County Eagles at 7 p.m. Good luck Wildcats!

Saturday, September 28th the junior high volleyball team will go up against Bayard at Bayard and game time is 9 a.m. Also on this date the band members will be taking a trip to Chadron.

On Monday, September 30th there will be cross country at the University of Nebraska in Kearney, junior high volleyball at Morrill, a tri-meet, at 4 p.m. and the beginning of homecoming week.

You will find folks dressed up as their favorite food. I do know one that could possibly be a slice of pizza, a chicken nugget, or a whole pizza.

On Tuesday, October 1st it will be Mythology Day, and Wednesday will be Class Competition Day.

Also on that day at 2 p.m. there will be a junior high football game vs. Minatare, on the home field. Second chance to see them!

Some of the FFA students will be going to the NPNRD for Land Judging on that day also. Busy day.

Next day, Thursday October 3rd there will be cross country at Bayard and it will be Throwback Thursday for the homecoming people.

Friday will also be busy with the 4th graders going to Flower Field and a Community supper and volleyball/football games beginning at 5:30 p.m. that evening. It will also be Wildcat Pride day for homecoming, so blue, blue, blue!!

In our surrounding areas the “100 years of Scotts Bluff” exhibit is still out at the Legacy of the Plains Museum and available on the 26th, while at Kimball that day they will have Life Line Screening at the Kimball Event Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

That evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. the King’s Hearld Quartet will perform in concert at the Midwest Theater. This group was founded in 1927 and over the years 34 gentlemen have been a part of the group and have entertained all over the U.S. and in over 50 different countries. They are being sponsored by the Scottsbluff 7th Day Adventist Church.

Friday September 27 - Sunday September 29 there will be so much action in Kimball that you will be exhausted come Monday.

Beginning on the 27th they will celebrate the 93rd Farmer’s Day “Sowing Seed of Success” with library book sales, bike races, a soup supper, cars a cruising, a street dance, a cornhole tournament and the movie in Gotte Park, “Aladdin.”

Don’t sleep in Saturday morning though or you might miss pancakes at the Eagles, the fun run or parade. There will also be a car show, crafts, vendors, a demolition derby, glow in the dark disk tournament and music by the Stahla Ford Band.

Come Sunday morning there will be a Kamikaze RC Airshow out at the airport and horseshoes in the park. Have fun everyone!

Up Scottsbluff way once again. On Friday the 27th at the Church Of Christ, located at 1919 Avenue N there will be a free soup supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Over in the Bridgeport area on the following morning there will be a Courthouse Rock Community Dig. It will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. with lunch and excavation tools being provided.

However, you will need to bring such items as water, gloves, a hat, sunscreen, water, bug spray and water. The minimum age limit is 16. I got it on that one!

In Scottsbluff on the 28th there will be the 8th annual Platte Valley Monument Marathon races from Scottsbluff to Gering. All ages are welcome and courses available will include a full or half marathon, or a 5k. If you need more information please call 630-6551.

Hop over to the great state of Wyoming and join the folks at Pine Bluffs on Saturday the 28th of September for the “ End of the Trail’ celebration. It will be 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and all you need to bring is a lawn chair. There will be kites taking to the air, crafts to shop and food vendors.

An interesting day the following Sunday in Alliance. “Kites Over Carhenge” will begin at 11 a.m. with a Kite Festival hosted by Friends of Carhenge in conjunction with Autumn on the Bricks in downtown Alliance.

The Kite Festival is free and all you need to bring is a chair for your derriere. OK.

There will be three nights to enjoy “Shout Praise with Grayson Warren Brown” at the St. Agnes Church in Scottsbluff located at 2314 3rd Avenue. These dates are September 29th and 30th and October 1st. Time each evening is 7 p.m. and if you would like more information please call 632-2541.

So now it is October,the 2nd as a matter of fact and this is your chance to go have “Coffee With a Cop,” a national day of celebration which will be held with our local police officers at the Bluffs Bakery . Visit with them from 7-9 a.m.

Anniversary congratulations to Mr. & Mrs.’ Roger McGowan III, Kevin Soule, and Brian Luppen.
