Longhorns Fall To State-Ranked Dundy County, 72-26

The Longhorns of Kimball High couldn’t keep pace with the quickness and speed of the visiting state ranked Dundy County­ Stratton Tigers in Friday night 8-man football action, losing 72-26 to the 4th ranked visitors.

Kimball kicked to start the contest and went to a surprise onside kick that Christian Allen Van Pelt recovered at the Dundy County 36 yard line but went 4 and out and the Tigers promptly turned their first series of offense into a touchdown with speedy sophomore quarterback Quade Myers going in from 15 yards out with 8:13 showing on the 1st quarter clock1,and then passed to Dominic Sis for the conversion points,for an 8-0 start.

Myers would score again a short time later after the Tigers came up with an interception,bursting for a 34 yard TD but the PAT failed. Kimball came back with a 50 yard touchdown pass from Brendan Walker to Austin Lulf with Lulf making an illusive move on the defender after the catch to go in for the score. The PAT pass was incomplete leaving the score at 14-6 after one quarter of play.

DC scored on the 1st play of the 2nd quarter to go up 20-6 and ran the margin to 36-6 before Kimball would strike pay dirt again with 2:53 left in the first half. Kimball’s TD came once again through the air on a perfect aerial from Walker to Van Pelt, who made a beautiful snag of the pigskin to take it away from a would-be defender. The PAT failed. DC would score once more before intermission with Myers busting loose for a 57 yard touchdown run leaving the score at half time 42-12.

Serbando Diaz, a speedy junior back, got his third TD of the night to open second half scoring on a 27 yard run and Myers ran in the PAT to run the score to 50-12, and Ethan Ratzlaff gave the Horns a 3rd quarter touchdown on his 2 yard run to close to 50-20 going into the 4th quarter.

DC scored on the 1st play of the 4th period with Diaz going in from 4 yards and then ran in the conversion. Kimball’s Javon Coyle gave Kimball fans something to cheer for on his nifty 57 yard run reversing his field and then out running the defense but his score was the last as Dundy County tallied twice more for the final tally of 72-26.

The.winners would amass 517 yards of offense with Myers accounting for 232 yards on 17 carries and scoring 4 touchdowns. Diaz also had 4 touchdowns on 13 carries for 159 yards and Corbin Horner carried 6 times for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Kimball had 279 yards of offense getting 129 through the air as Walker connected on 4 of 5 passes and hit on 2 TDs. The Horns had 150 yards rushing on 41 attempts with Coyle the leader with his 57 yards on a lone carry. Allen-Van Pelt got 42 tough yards on 11 attempts, Ratzlaff 28 yards on 12 attempts, Walker 15 yards on 10 attempts, Brayden Tyan 9 yards on 4 attempts.

Lulf was top receiver with 2 catches for 78 yards and 1 TD. Allen-Van Pelt had 1 catch and 1 TD for 42 yards, and Jacob Withrow 1 catch for 9 yards.

Brayden Tyan was at the top of the defensive stats with 5 solo tackles but left the game with what appeared to be a shoulder injury and at the time of this report his status for this week was unknown. Jacob Withrow had 4 tackles and 1 assist, Allen-Van Pelt 4 tackles, Arthur Laveran was 3 and 2, Ratzlaff 1-3, Lulf 2 tackles, Coyle 2 tackles, Ethan Greenwood 2 tackles, Trey Schindler 1-2, Walker 1-1, Justin Klosterman 1-1, Beau Hanks 1 tackle. Kimball will take their 1 win 2 loss record on the road this Friday with a trip to Hemingford with a 7 p.m. kickoff time.
