Longhorns Fall To Morrill, 48-6

The visiting Morrill Lions were simply too much for a battered up Kimball Longhorn football squad in Friday night action at Keith Staehr Field with a final score of 48-6. With the loss, Kimball falls to 1 and 5 on the season with two games remaining on the schedule.

Morrill dominated first half play to run the score to 26-0 at intermission with Tanner Whetham accounting for 4 touchdown runs along with the Lions sacking Christian Allen-VanPelt for a safety as well.

Allen-VanPelt got Kimball's lone touchdown to open second half scoring with a 1 yard dive but Morrill would score 3 more touchdowns before the game ended with Rowdy Lind getting 2 of those TDs on runs of 41 and 36 yards and Mark Bartlett going 28 yards for the final touchdown.

Morrill dominated the stats with 425 yards of offense compared to 127 for the Horns with 354 yards of rushing and 71 yards of passing. Positive stats for Kimball saw them hold their penalties to 5 for 30 yards while Morrill had 7 for 63. Kimball's time of possession was 29:30 while Morrill had the ball 18:30. Allen-VanPelt also did a good job punting averaging over 38 yards on 4 punts.

In individual stats, Whetham had 156 yards rushing for the winners while scoring 4 touchdowns and Lind scored twice and 146 yards rushing. Kimball's top rusher was quarterback Brendan Walker with 29 yards on 10 attempts.

Austin Lulf had 19 yards on 8 carries, freshman Justin Klosterman 17 yards on 7 carries, and Allen-VanPelt 12 on 15 rushes. Javon Coyle had 11 yards on 2 carries. Walker was 2 for 3 passing for 39 yards with Lulf making both receptions.

Allen Van-Pelt led the tackle charts for Kimball with 7 tackles and 1 assist. Javon Coyle had 6 tackles and 2 assists. Stephen Bateman 4 tackles, Lulf 3 tackles, Arthur Laveran 2 tackles and 2 assists, Ethan Greenwood 3 tackles, Walker 2 and 1, Beau Hanks 3 assists, and Ethan Evans 1 assist.

The Horns are on the road this Friday night travelling to Sutherland for an early 6 p.m. kickoff. They will close out the season next week with a Thursday night Homecoming game with Bayard coming to Kimball.
