Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The fall sport season is fast coming to a close!
The Kimball High girls golf season has already ended with Payton Wise taking third place and Katie Heeg qualifying in her first year with the sport.
The cross country will wind up tomorrow (Friday) with Chantel Malson running at Kearney. The football ends tomorrow (Friday) when Kimball hosts Bayard for Homecoming.
The volleyball sub-district tournament starts Monday at Ogallala and although we had nothing official at the time of this writing, Kimball coach Jeri Ferguson thought Kimball would be the No. 3 seed and would probably play Sutherland in the 6 p.m. match. Again, this is not official, so maybe give the school a call before you head east.
Some Good Golf
At Four Winds
Thanks to our Four Winds Pro Chad Wise, I got a lot of attention for my golfing this past week when I had a good week of play for an old feller. I shot my age of 83 one day and shot 1 under another day with an 82.
Now I admit these were good scores for me, but just last week alone I witnessed a lot of outstanding happenings during play in our 12 noon “Show up and Play” format. Anyone is welcome.
You want to talk about some good golf, my friend Kevin Thomas shot a fantastic round of 67, not once, but twice last week. He had 8 birdies that one round! My friend Dennis Hoffman shot a great round of 79! Don Trofholz eagled number 18 from 95 yards out after a booming drive.
Dale Hendrickson is back to playing with us and what a day he had with 3 birdies, and he had 2 birds after the first 5 holes. Dean Golding was blasting 300 yard drives all day and I know because I was in the group ahead of him.
I guess shooting your age, or under, is something special, at least according to Chad Wise. I remember doing stories on Bob Elwood when he did this, and Bert Linn has done this several times. Anyway, it was nice of Chad to give me all the publicity he did and he is always trying hard to promote the game of golf and the Four Winds Golf Course. He does a Great job.
Thanks to everyone who said kinds words to this old duffer. I hope to do it again.
Late Season Action
Don’t forget to come out and join in the fun of Homecoming tomorrow night at Keith Staehr Field when Kimball hosts Bayard in the final football game of this season with kickoff at 7 p.m.
And don’t forget sub-district volleyball at Ogallala this Monday evening with what looks like Kimball going against Sutherland in either the 6 or 7 p.m. match.
