Dix Woman Gets Probation For Perjury Conviction

Jean Childs of Dix was sentenced in Kimball District Court on Dec. 18 to 24 months of probation.

Childs had been convicted of perjury in a September trial.

Judge Derek Weimer opened the proceedings with acknowledgment of receiving a pre-sentence report.

Childs’ court appointed attorney, Lindsay Snyder, submitted additional correspondence to the court supporting Childs’ work history and family ties.

Special prosecutor Paul Schaub recommended probation and jail time due to the serious nature of the crime, but Snyder argued for only probation.

Snyder said Childs as a 60-year-old woman was responsible for the primary supporting income for her and her husband. Childs’ husband is on disabilities, according to Snyder.

Judge Weimar asked Childs a series of questions required by law and then sentenced her to 24 months of probation with factors she must comply with for the term of probation.

The perjury charge stemmed from a 2016 trial in which her husband was found guilty of “injury to a public road.”
