Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
As locals are probably aware, Dan Kinnison was a master carpenter and had an abundance of excellent tools.
On March 1, 2017, at the age of 93, Mr. Kinnison passed away and since that time, his family has elected to raffle off his fine tools, which include a variety of equipment, such as a table saw, radial arm saw, drill press, bench grinder and compound saw.
For a $50 ticket, the winner will be guaranteed $5,000 worth of tools. Raffle tickets are available at Hometown Hardware and Kimball Auto Parts. A complete list of tools are located on area posters around town. The drawing will be held Friday, Jan. 31, at Hometown Hardware.
The Andy Shaw Memorial Fund will be the beneficiary of the raffle as Dan Kinnison was the grandfather of Andy Shaw. Diagnosed shortly before his 21st birthday, Andy Shaw died of Hodgkin's lymphoma in September 2006. He fought the cancer for 4 years.
The Andy Shaw Memorial Fund helps local people fighting cancer. Over the years, the Andy Shaw Fund has aided 86 local people who have been in treatment for cancer.
Patty Shaw, the mother of Andy, said, "We have always had money. We have never had to turn anyone away."
As a way to honor Andy, The Andy Shaw Co-ed Softball Tournament began immediately after his death and today it is still the main fundraiser for this local cancer project. A bake sale at the local health fair supplements the fundraiser.
