Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball High Wrestling Team had three wrestlers place at the Chase County Tournament this past Saturday with Stephen Bateman taking 3rd place honors, Trey Schindler 5th, and Matt Johnson 6th.
Coach Wade Brashear, commenting on the latest tournament, said, “Chase County turned out to be a tough, long tournament. This week our top placer was once again heavyweight Steve Bateman. Steve dropped a semifinal match after being up 6-0, but he battled back to finish third.
“Matt Johnson won two matches on the day to put him in sixth place. Trey Schindler was our other placer. Trey lost a very winnable match in the consolation semi finals, but battled back and took fifth. Overall, we wrestled well, but we dropped some big matches.”
Matt Johnson at 106 was 2-3 for the tournament and scored a pin and a major decision.
Connor Cluff at 132 went 1-2 winning a 12-3 major decision.
Trey Schindler at 138 was 3-2 for the day with 2 falls and a major decision.
Joseph Burris at 145 was 0-2.
Steve Bateman at 285 was 4-1, including 2 wins by fall.
Kimball will be at the Chadron Invitational this Saturday.
