Gabriel Temple Wins Banner Spelling And Geography Bees

Hello everyone and Happy Valentine’s Day!

It is tomorrow and what it means to me at this moment is … Well..we are almost half way through February, and how did that happen, Cupid?? Seriously, I do wish you all a special day, at least a nice one.

I know of a few dining places that are having Valentine’s Day special offers, the Eagles in Kimball for one and another a couple of fellows who will perform music from the 1957 era that was made popular by the Everly Brothers. The Midwest Theater in Scottsbluff will host “The Everly Set” on the 14th.

Here at home the junior high basketball teams will be playing Garden County on their home turf on Thursday, February 13, TODAY. The boys will play at 11:15 and the girls will play at 1:45. The MAC contest will continue at Garden County the following day also.

There will be NO School at Banner County on Friday, February 14th.

Saturday the 15th will find the speech team headed to Hay Springs. Congratulations to Makayla Jones and Kairyn Miller on their recent 5th place MAC contest.

Also on the 15th the high school wrestlers will be competing in District play in North Platte. Safe travel to you all.

The recent Spelling Bee winner was Gabriel Temple with Keira Bolander taking second place.

And cnce again Gabriel Temple came in first, this time at the Geography Bee. Second place winner was Riley Jones.

At the recent FFA competition in Gordon, our students took 5th place overall. The Vet team is Chase Riedel, Luke Linberg, Deven Sullivan and Helen Hein. The Ag team qualified for State and includes Joe Cross, Alex Rundell, Lily Teeple, and Ashley Clement. Congratulations to all of you!

Happy Happy Birthday this week to:Roger Morris, Kerry Baker, Jalanna Krakow, Brittany Macias, Ken Boston, Hannah ( Brown ) Norman and Tom Wayman.

Anniversary couple of the week is Mr. & Mrs. Denny DeNovellis.

Area Events

The YMCA in Scottsbluff is holding a Health Fair from 7-11 a.m. on Thursday, February 13th.  If you plan to attend they remind you to fast for 10-12 hours before you come in and drink plenty of water.

A series of Producer Roundtable meetings will begin soon for the surrounding areas and the one for Banner County will take place on Tuesday, February 18 out at the North Platte NRD. RSVP Today by calling 632-2749.

The Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering will host more of their Puzzles of the Past focusing on the town of Hull, which we have referred to as the Hull community for at least 35 years.I do not know when it ceased to be a town.

Folks will meet on the 14th at 9 a.m. and the entire public is invited to attend this free event. You are also invited to bring any old photos or other Hull mementos with you. Memories count, too.

Local honey, homemade jams and jellies and salsa are only a few of the items for sale at the Winter Market located at 1400 E 20th in Scottsbluff during the Winter Market held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 15th.  Monday the 17th is Presidents Day and most government offices, if not all,will be closed. No mail.

There will be Proficient Master Gardener Training on the 17th at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the next afternoon there will be Master Gardening Training from 3-4 p.m. at the same location.

The folks at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington will host a Lancer Look for parents and prospective students on the 18th beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please meet in the Fine Arts building for the tour.

Did anyone make it to the Farm & Ranch Expo? I missed this year due to a little road trip to the eastern end of the state. Long, long ride.
