Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball High Wrestlers were busy at the WTC/SPVA Tournament this past week at Bridgeport, and will head to North Platte St Pats for District competition this Friday-Saturday.
The Longhorns had some good efforts at the conference tournament along with some disappointments. Coach Wade Brashear commented, “We had our highs and our lows at conference. We started out in the first two rounds wrestling very well. The semifinal round was not as fruitful for us. We dropped some big matches that would have set us up for better placing.
“Stephen Bateman had another solid outing, but then took a loss in the finals match after being up 5-0. Steve just made a crucial mistake, but he had the match in hand and ended up runner-up. Joe Burris was 2-2 on the day and eared a 4th place. Matt Johnson was 1-1 and ended up 3rd. Trey Schindler and Connor Cluff both finished 6th in their 16-man brackets.”
Johnson at 106 had a win by fall and lost a decision to go 1-1. Cluff at 132 was 1-3 as was Schindler at 138. Burris at 145 was 2-2, and Bateman at 285 was 2-1.
