Jock Talk: Virus Precautions Put Spring Sports On Hold

Sports are on hold! Thanks to the Coronavirus scare, the National, Collegiate and area High School sports are on hold, with lots of them cancelled for the balance of the season!

Kimball High, along with all of the Panhandle schools, are closed completely – thus meaning no track people are allowed to even work out on the school track facilities.

Hopefully, you tracksters are working out on your own out on the streets and roads to keep in condition.

At the time of this writing, I guess you boy golfers can still practice, on your own, at the Four Winds Golf Course, when it is open and when the weather is fit enough to do so.

You fans can disregard the sports schedules until we get word that things are good to go.

Jordon Greenwood

At least I have one story to report this week involving former Kimball High standout Jordan Greenwood, who now golfs for Midland University out of Fremont, Nebraska.

Before the shutdowns, which actually started at Fremont, Jordan and his Midland University team took part in a big 3 day tournament in South Carolina. Midland took 7 golfers and Jordan shot the 3rd best score for his team with rounds of 80-80-84=244.

Now the school is closed until further notice and no golfer either until they get the word.

Four Winds

Our Four Winds Golf Course is supposed to be open, but I am writing this before the big snowstorm that is supposed to hit today!

Pat O’Brien is still wanting you golfers to contact him if you are interested in playing in the Four Winds Men’s Monday-Tuesday evening golf league. Call him at 235-5009, or tell Chad Wise at the Pro Shop if the road out there has been plowed open.

Spring Numbers

I can not tell you much at this time about the Kimball High track and boys golf other than 18 girls and 12 boys have signed up for track, and 8 boy golfers are checked out.

Honorable Mentions

I also received word that the SPVA held a vote for naming the All Conference Basketball Team selections – doing it by phone or internet or something other than getting together.

Kimball had 3 boys given Honorable Mention, including Beau Hanks, Brendan Walker and Brayden Tyan.

Kimball girls coach Chauncey Pedersen said he had not received word yet on the voting for the girls all conference, but will let us know when they let him know.
