Coronavirus Puts Its Mark On Branding

As calving season concludes, the thought of springtime rituals like branding begin occurring. But in this crazy, unusual time, Panhandle Public Health District has cautioned ranchers about their spring social gatherings.

This year must be different. It will undoubtedly take longer and be harder, but in an effort to stop the spread of this virus it is imperative that local ranches follow the guidelines.

The first thing on the list is to limit branding to the smallest and most essential crew that is necessary to get the job done.

Although children love the excitement and activities of branding, leave children and grandparents home to minimize those individual who are at high risk.

Foods, spirits and neighborly enjoyment usually accompany branding, but sack lunches are encouraged along with, of course, social distancing. Wearing gloves while preparing food can help, and do not pass the bottle around.
