During Virus Outbreak, Families Visit Loved Ones On Other Side Of Glass
Visitors are now called "window peepers" at the Kimball County Manor.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the manor has been restricting visitors since March 13 as a result of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services guidelines, but the lockdown and isolation have initiated some creative solutions.
Along with using Facetime and Skype, the manor has family members seeing their loved ones through the windows. According to the staff at the manor there have been some very special "window moments" that will never be forgotten.
While the manor staff has been working hard to protect this vulnerable population, families have been understanding. But some residents ask if their relatives can come in if they are wearing a mask or if it will be a really short visit."
A real difficulty occurs when a family member's last visit is through the window. It is the final time they got to see the smile or wave of their loved one.
Kimball County Manor is looking forward to "old days and old ways" when visitors can come back inside the facility. That, caregivers say, is was truly makes the residents thrive.
