Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
All Nebraska sporting events are still in shutdown because of the COVID-19, but everyone can still stay active on their own by walking, running, riding their bikes, and even golfing, but you must stay the advised 6 feet apart.
Nebraska is better off than our neighbor Colorado as there is no golf allowed at all down their way. When the weather allows, the Kimball Four Winds Golf Course is busy, and the course is in very good condition thanks to superintendent Jeremy Williams and his staff. You must call ahead for tee times, and everything is being handled in the most sanitary manner as far as signing in etc.
Catching Up With
Jordan Greenwood
I had a nice conversation with Kimball's Jordan Greenwood on Sunday evening. Jordan is a student and member of the Men's Golf Team at Midland University in Fremont and he informed me that his junior golf season is over as Nebraska has canceled out the possibility of any spring golf competition. He will have one more year remaining.
Jordan is doing his studies and classes online like most all students, college and high school, are doing. He said that he does get out and does some golfing on his own and with some of his college teammates. He told me studying online is a bit of an adjustment, but not all that much different.
"I do miss the one-on-one and face time with my instructors," he said.
In the next week or so he will also start a summer job working for Amazon.
Before we closed out our conversation, Jordan said, "I hope things clear up by June so the Father's Day Golf Tournament there in Kimball can be held. That is always such a good time for all of us."
This, of course, remains to be seen.
Toby McManigal
I have talked with other college students who are back home in Kimball and doing their studying online.
Toby McManigal, who is also working at Main Street Market, said he really misses going to class.
"I never thought you would hear me say it, but I want to go to class," he said.
Toby is enrolled at the University of Wyoming.
Hunter Thompson
I ran into another Wyoming Cowboy at the Dairy Queen in Kimball this past week. Hunter Thompson was buying ice cream treats with his mother and it was good to see this tall and talented young man again.
Hunter, as you devoted sports fans know, was a standout basketball player at Pine Bluffs who was recruited and signed by the University of Wyoming. This season was not as planned as he was sick for a good share of it, lost a lot of weight, and had to sit out.
He did tell me he got back for the conference tournament, but since I am on Dish and they are feuding with the TV stations that carry Wyoming basketball, I don't ever get to watch the Cowboys. Hunter told me he plans to get down and play some golf at the Four Winds this summer.
Chauncey
Pederson
The latest update on Kimball's Chauncey Pederson, who gave his resignation as the Kimball High Girl's Basketball coach after the season ending game, is that he is now leaving his Kimball position of school counselor as well.
Chauncey is making a career change after accepting the position of 7th through 12th grade counselor at the Morrill school system, and he was talked into assisting coach Guerue in the Morrill girls basketball program. Chauncey will continue to live in Kimball and commute to his new position in Morrill.
Let's Keep In Touch
I am looking for stories to share with our readers, so if anyone out there has something you would like to send my way please do.
I want to touch base with Ryan Muneo for a story much like the one you will find this week concerning Ireland Olson, but I need phone numbers for either Ryan or his mother. Hint-hint, give me a call please.
STAY SAFE AND STAY HEALTHY!
