Wind Leaves Its Mark In Banner County

Good morning Banner County! Cooler here this week for sure but not so windy.

Wow, the wind here this past Saturday was terrible. We personally did not have any serious damage and we did not loose our electricity.

Parts of Banner County did though and were out for several hours. Some damage was done to buildings throughout the county also, and I do not know about damage to such things as pivots. Trees and roofs seemed to be the obvious.

Business continue to reopen and we are thankful for each one! The Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering will resume its hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and it will abide with covid-19 restrictions.

At the Scotts Bluff County fairgrounds in Mitchell there will be two days of shows titled “Freedom in the Ring Livestock Show.” Market swine, market lambs, market goats, breeding beef, lamb and pig futurities will be a part of the program. These shows will be hosted by volunteers, and for more information please call 308-672-5510. They will take place on June 13th and June 14th.

Also in Mitchell, beginning today, June 11th and on every Thursday through September, there will be a Farmers market held from 4-6 p.m. in Centennial Park.

In Scottsbluff, the folks at the Western Nebraska Arts Center will be hosting a ‘ best sidewalk chalk design ‘ event. You can use your own chalk, or pick up a bag of free chalk on Saturday, June 13th, at the Arts Center.

Once your sidewalk chalk design is completed, you take a picture of it and send it to the Arts Center. Pictures are due the 27th of June and the winner will receive a reward of moldable chalk. If you would like more information please call 632-2226.

The splash pad at the zoo reopened last week, and on June 15th the Gering swimming pool has plans to do the same. More information on that reopening is supposed to come to us soon.

Speaking of water, several of our family members took to one of the area lakes recently. With jet skis and coolers, we took kids and some young adults out and enjoyed the great weather and the beautiful scenery. It was great.

Birthdays here this week include: Kaylea Stoddard, Chris King, Brian Browne, Robin Darnall,Brock Elsen, Keagan Marie Adrian, Gwen Bayeral, Monty Stoddard, Kohl Krakow, Jack Cochran, Beth Baker, and Karen Valdes. Happy Happy Birthday!
