Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The first big tournament of the season will happen this weekend at the Four Winds Golf Course as the Annual Father’s Day Classic event is set for its two-day format on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday’s play will tee off with a shotgun start at 12 noon with two 3-person teams on each of the 18 holes, and Sunday play will have a 9 a.m. start time, also with a shotgun start.
As usual, the format is a 3-person scramble and requires no handicap and is an opportunity for golfers to play with family and friends.
As reported last week by chairman Randy Bohac, there are golfers signed up from several states who are coming back to play with other family members. Randy reports the field is full with 36 teams and was limited to this number to avoid problems with the required COVID distance rules.
“A few changes golfers will see this year is we are asking them to not pull the flagstick from the hole, and that each golfer picks his own golf ball out of the cup when done putting,” Bohac said.
To help this cause, additional foam has been placed in the holes making it easier to pluck the ball out. Also, there will be no rakes in the sand traps, and all of the ball washers have been removed.
Four Winds Pro Chad Wise said to avoid too many golfers in the Pro Shop at one time, but in trying to get everyone signed in with a faster method – only one team can check in at a time. He asks that all golfers respect the social distance.
Chad said all scoring will be done on the scoreboard by the pro shop this year. Also, all golfers will be fed after Saturday play, but as to where is still to be determined.
Team Mates
Scramble
Another reminder also for all of the golfers, the annual Team Mates four-person scramble is set for Saturday, June 27 at the Four Winds with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. All golfers will be fed at the Trap Club site prior to tee off and will register at that site. Cost is $60 per person, and all golfers will receive a registration gift, plus prizes awarded for the top teams and several flag prizes.
All Star
Scramble
The West Nebraska All Star Golf Scramble was held this past Friday at the Scottsbluff Country Club Course as a fundraiser for the association, according to Chairman Shane Hays. It was also an opportunity for former players, coaches, officials and others to reunite.
We had some Kimball area golfers compete, including Shane, who was on a team that tied for 4th place in the 2nd flight shooting a gross 63 and net 56.9.
Another Kimball team consisting of Coach Staehr and his three sons, Jon Joel and Jay, shot the same score to tie for 4th.
Another Kimball team of Henry Heeg Sr., Henry Heeg Jr., Vince Heeg and Darren Duncan of Scottsbluff finished 7th with a gross 64 and net 58. 5.
