Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Gotte Park is the location for fire truck rides on the 4th of July, according to Kimball Fire Chief Andrew Bohac. The rides will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. The firemen will also have additional trucks set up so children can spray the fire hose.
Unfortunately, due to Phase III of the Governor's Directed Health Measures which prohibit carnivals and parades, the Kiwanis will not have their normal July 4th activities. President of the Kiwanis Jay Fennell said, "We plan to continue doing our 4th of July event in future years, once the restrictions are lifted."
Assistant fire chief Taylor Brown reported to the Observer that the fireworks show on the 4th of July will be happening. FirsTier Bank began sponsoring the event last year and will continue to sponsor it this year. Start time is 9 p.m. on Horseshoe Hill, just south of town. Rain date is July 5.
This is the sixth consecutive year that assistant chief Brown has been involved in the fireworks show.
In all, about six Kimball volunteer firemen are needed to light the fireworks and another five are stationed around the area in fire trucks, just in case.
The fireworks grand finale is electronically set off and takes about three hours to set it up.
