Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
A group known as the Maple 50 Team with AmeriCorps NCCC will be arriving in Kimball County on Thursday, July 30, and begin with two days of orientation/training before moving on to give the area some considerable help.
Beginning on the Aug. 3, they will start working with the South Platte Natural Resources District at Oliver Reservoir for two weeks.
After assisting SPNRD, they will come to the Kimball County Visitor Center, where they will help build a billboard, old west storefronts, prep flower beds, and do some painting.
During the two weeks they will be working with the Visitor Center, they will spend a couple days volunteering at the Community Walking Trail. While there, they will help get rid of thistle and other weeds and work to place benches around the trail.
Finally, they will be working with the Plains Historical Society for another two weeks. The team will help clean the old high school building as well as prep the Fraternal Hall for Farmer’s Day.
The mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team based, national and community service. The team’s work in each location is intended to bring more people into Kimball County, thus increasing revenue for our community. It also is hoped to give area residents a renewed sense of pride in our county. Local officials have expressed excitement to have the team coming to Kimball County and said they look forward to working with them.
