Seems Like Mother Nature Is Having A 2020 Year, Too in Banner County

Good morning everyone, friends near and far. Here is hoping that you all had a great weekend and that the cold front that moved in for a few days is not going to be our “new normal” for a while yet.

I love the fall but hate the cold weather. I love to look at the snow but hate to be in it.

I read the other day that so far September temperatures have reached and topped previous record highs. I believe it and 15/20 degrees cooler would be okay but this ole stuff of dropping almost 50 degrees from one day to the next is way too much.

Seems like Mother Nature is having a 2020 year, too.Not that great and definitely not stable.

At least it was nice for Labor Day weekend. We had family here from out of town so several days of bar-b-ques, family and friends plus a birthday celebration so the days flew by pretty fast. Now we are good until Thanksgiving with only six birthdays scattered from now until mid-November.

Here at home this week there is scheduled cross country at Kimball on Friday, September 11th at 1 p.m. and high school football at 7 p.m. in Crawford. School will be in session on this day also.

On Monday the 14th the Banner County School Board will meet for its regular meeting at the school at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, September 15th, the cross country team will head to Bridgeport and the junior high volleyball team will travel to Gurley to compete in a triangular. For times on these two, please call the school at 436-5262.

Area Farmers Markets are still scheduled as far as I know for these dates: Mitchell & Torrington on the 10th; Scottsbluff on the 12th; Gering on the 14th; Morrill on the 15th and Bridgeport on the 16th. There will be an Open house free to the public book signing at the Gering Public Library on Sunday afternoon, September 13th from 2 - 4 p.m. This will feature two local authors, Doug Chamberlain from LaGrange and his book “....and Bury Him! A memoir of the Viet Nam War” and Lawrence Gibbs from Gering and his book “Nebraska Sweet Beets: A History of the Sugar Valley.” The Extension will host via Zoom another GROBigRed virtual film at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15th. This one is on cover crops.
