Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyote Volleyball team evened their record to 5-and-5 during Homecoming Week with a victory against the Creek Valley Lady Storm at Potter Thursday night.
Although the Creek Valley team has only one win in front-loaded schedule, they’ve been improving and offered a challenge against the home team.
Potter-Dix also has been improving, with three strong hitters in Kylie Fiehtner, Jaydin Paxton and Mikayla Lee and a developing group of supporting players.
Each set was a battle, with the girls going back and forth with the Lady Coyotes ultimately getting the final points of the set.
However, Creek Valley broke through in the third set, taking it away from the Lady Coyotes by a final score of 25-to-22.
Potter-Dix was able to close out the match with a 25-to-21 victory and the 25-to-22, 25-to-21, 22-to-25 and 25-to-21 3-to1 match victory.
Potter-Dix Head Coach Keri Mendoza commented after the match, “The Homecoming crowd really added to the intensity of the game. We were down over 10 points in the third set and the crowd really helped us get our momentum back-plus, the boys cheering really helped keep the girls pumped up.”
Potter-Dix’s outstanding sophomore setter Kallie Crossman had some trouble with getting called for carries on her sets, which Mendoza noted she needed to continue to work on, but overall Mendoza was pleased with the team’s performance and intensity.
Creek Valley Head Coach Jena Hansen commented after the game, “We had a hard, fast and heavy start to the season and faced some tough teams early on and it began to wear on the girls. Thankfully we only have two matches over the next 15 days so hopefully we’ll get rested a rejuvenated.
“We’ve had some outstanding performances from senior Lydia Mitlehner and sophomore Ella Ningen fed our hitters really well and is starting to become an offensive threat.”
She added, “All in all each girl played very well against Potter-Dix, and our goal is to step onto the court with the same enthusiasm as we had tonight.”
