Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The City of Kimball issued a news release Oct. 2 to announce that it is joining public power entities across Nebraska and the nation in celebrating Public Power Week, an annual event coordinated by the American Public Power Association, Oct. 4-10.
Nebraska is the only 100 percent public power state in the country. The value proposition of public power is as valid as it was in 1933 when the Legislature created this unique business model, the release said.
The City of Kimball said it has focused on the tenets of public power – affordable rates, local control, reliability, and sustainability and will continue to do so moving forward.
Nebraska’s electric utilities are governed by individuals locally elected or appointed who are accessible and accountable to the customers they serve. That means the decisions about how the electric utility is run are made by people who live and work in the community, not corporations. Public power utilities are rooted in and committed to the communities they serve and invest revenues directly back into the community. And they all share the common goal of providing reliable and safe electricity for their customers at a reasonable price.
