Longhorn Golfers Sent To State In Style
The feature spotlight on Kimball High athletic events this week is of course the girls state golf tournament of which Kimball qualified for by placing 3rd at the District Tournament reported last week.
The Kimball team departed from Kimball High School at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, headed for Columbus, the site of the Class C Tournament. On Sunday they got in a practice round, battling some wind, like what’s new?
By the way, they got a nice sendoff with the Kimball Fire Department escorting them out to the interstate with a string of well wishers following complete with sirens, flashing lights, and car horns.
After Sunday’s practice round, and on Monday, Columbus Day, the girls enjoyed celebrating the day by playing state tournament golf at COLUMBUS! How appropriate is that?
As I write this column, and after writing the story on Day One, we were still waiting to hear if the printers would extend our press deadline to include the day two results in this week’s paper.
At this time we still have not heard back, but I guess you readers will know when you pick up the paper Wednesday evening, or Thursday.
Kimball Cross Country
The Kimball High cross country team had back-to-back conference races this past week, running at the SPVA meet in Grant on Thursday, and the WTC at Bridgeport on Friday. I know the highlights were Matthew Johnson placing placing 7th individually at the SPVA for the boys and Chantel Malson running 9th for the girls for top 10 medals and All Conference honors. The Kimball boys also finished 3rd as a team.
Kimball Sports Schedule
This week’s schedule of events has the Kimball High cross country team running at the District meet in Bridgeport today (Thursday), junior high volleyball at Morrill and junior high football at Bridgeport.
The Kimball High football team will travel to Hemingford for Friday night action with a 7 p.m. kickoff listed on the schedule.
SPVA volleyball is at Grant Saturday. On Monday, October 19, the Lady Longhorn volleyball teams are at Morrill along with Mitchell. That is freshman only at Morrill.
On Tuesday, October 20, all the Kimball High volleyball teams are at Grant, and there is a junior high football at home with Morrill coming to town for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
