Volleyball Action: Kimball & Potter-Dix

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes hosted a Triangular against Bayard and Kimball, and were able to manage a split against the two teams.

The Lady Coyotes first matched up against Bayard, and although the Coyotes played well, the Lady Tigers were too much for Potter-Dix, and won in straight sets 25-to-16 and 25-to-19. Senior Mikayla Lee led the Lady Coyote’s offense with five kills in the loss.

Potter-Dix next faced a Kimball Lady Longhorns team that lost to Bayard in straight sets, but played a very tight first set against the Lady Tigers, losing 25-to-20, then were overpowered in a 25-to-12 second set.

Against the Lady Coyotes, the Lady Longhorns started sharp, keeping the set close and forcing extra points. The teams battled back and forth until Potter-Dix was finally able to go up by two points, and took the set 31-to-29. The marathon opener seemed to drain Kimball, and Potter-Dix made quick work of the second set, taking it 25-to-10 for the 2-to-0 match victory. Lee again led the Potter-Dix offense with six kills in the victory.

The Lady Coyotes then faced Hay Springs on Friday, and came out strong and took the first set 25-to-22. But the Lady Hawks regrouped and ran off three straight set victories, 25-to-20, 25-to-18 and 25-to-16 to take the 3-to-1 match victory.

Kimball traveled up to Morrill on Thursday and came out on the wrong side of a five set battle against the Lady Lions. After the Lady Longhorns took the first set 25-to-21, Morrill struck back with a 25-to-21 set victory of their own. Kimball grabbed the momentum again took the third set 25-to-20, but the Lady Lions were able to regroup and take the fourth set 25-to-23 and force a fifth set that they also won by a score of 15-to-8 for the 3-to-2 match victory.

Kimball’s record moves to 3-and-19 on the season while Potter-Dix’s record stands at 7-and-15.
