14 Active COVID Cases Here

But Nearby Counties Have Many More Cases

The Panhandle Public Health District’s risk dial has move further into the orange area this week due to the fact that Nebraska and Panhandle COVID-19 cases have increased.

According to information from PPHD, Kimball County has 14 active cases as of Tuesday afternoon. Kimball County has experienced a total of 42 cases, and 28 have recovered.

Based on the past three weeks of information, the risk level is a combination of data including positivity rates compared to population and the total number of tests given in each area. The risk level also includes data on the trajectory of cases in the last 14-day period and the availability of adult ICU beds among other specific information gathered.  

At last review, Kimball County COVID-19 numbers have risen, but many other Panhandle counties, especially the northern countries, are struggling with much higher numbers.

As of Tuesday, Box Butte County has 57 active cases, Dawes County 32 active cases, Sheridan County 36 active cases, neighboring Cheyenne County 24 active cases and Scotts Bluff County has a whopping 181 active cases.

Since October 15, the Panhandle is reporting 160 cases of COVID-19.

Locally, administrator Shannon Monheiser said Kimball County Manor continues to be on “lockdown.” As cases continue to increase in the county, she said manor staffers are “taking steps to protect their residents.”

Visits with a cell phone are encouraged. The manor is trying not be to totally restrictive, but the staff is using precautions.

Keep Kimball County’s COVID-19 numbers low by washing your hands, social distancing and wearing a mask. Also, Avoid the Three C’s – avoid crowded places, avoid close contact and avoid confined spaces.
