Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Greetings From Banner County Winter Wonderland

Good morning Banner County! I don’t care what part of the county you live in, I am betting that you awoke to a winter wonderland on Monday morning!

We had at least a foot here.

All I can say is that I am thankful for the moisture and that the smell of wood burning is great. Chicken and noodles, chili, and vegetable soup.

The spooktacular planned for this past Sunday was cancelled as were many other expected events.

Some schools had a late start while here we had school cancelled for Monday. If you haven’t heard we have a student tested positive with COVID. We are still holding our own, however, and school continues. Halloween will or will not go on as usual this Saturday, partly due to the weather I expect.

The elementary kids pre-K through 5th grade will have their parade of costumes and class parties on Thursday the 29th at 3 p.m. There will be NO school on Friday, October 30th but there will be junior high wrestling here at home beginning at 9 a.m.

Another meet for these guys will take place in Kimball beginning at noon on Tuesday, November 3rd. Good luck and safe travel to all of you.

As you may or may not remember the time change is this weekend, clocks move Back on this Sunday, November 1st.

Friday, celebrating Halloween the folks at Fort Laramie will be conducting their annual “ Handful of Goodies “ at the community center town offices from 2-4 p.m. The spooktacular is hopefully open from 5:30 p.m - 8 p.m. and on Halloween the following night from 3 - 8 p.m., and the Bethel Baptist church located on west 18th will host a Trunk or Treat from 5-6 p.m.

Saturday morning, October 31st the new Carol A Fuller Foundation Dog Park in Mitchell will have their grand opening from noon until 3 p.m. Dogs in costume will receive prizes. Norman does not like costumes but if he did I sure could have a good time.

Morril is scheduled to have their last farmers market on Saturday, October 31st from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on the same date the winter farmers market will start in Scottsbluff. This will be held each Saturday at the Monument Mall through March from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

There will be a virtual open house for the Aviation Maintenance program offered through WNCC at 4 p.m. on November 4th. This is free but you must register online by November 3rd.
