Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball’s Longhorn basketball team came back from the COVID-19 break in their season to face the South Platte Blue Knights on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and continued to struggle on offense against the more experienced teams that they are playing.
South Platte at Kimball
South Platte had a solid if low scoring first quarter, and led the Longhorns by six going into the second frame. The second quarter had the Blue Knights take off on offense, putting up 24 points in the quarter to open a 36-16 lead at the half. Another big quarter of scoring in the third put the game away as the Blue Knights scored 26 points to the Longhorns eight in the period, and South Platte coasted the rest of the way for a big 72--31 win.
Kimball at Chase County
The Kimball squad’s fortunes did not change on Saturday as they traveled to Imperial to take on the Chase County Longhorns, and they quickly found themselves behind 22-2 at the end of the first period. Chase County delivered the knockout blow in the second quarter, putting up 23 more points to take a 45-5 lead into the half. Chase County then cruised the rest of the way, racking up another 23 points in the half to breeze to a 68-11 victory.
Kimball at Morrill
Kimball traveled to Morrill on Monday, losing 70-23.
Individual Kimball players statistics were not immediately available for the South Platte, Chase County and Morrill games.
The Longhhorns hope to get their offense on track soon.
They hosted Potter-Dix on Tuesday this week and were scheduled to visit Bridgeport on Jan. 15 and Gordon-Rushville on Jan. 16 before competing in the SPVA tournament Jan. 18-23.
