Cluff, Schindler Place In Two Meets

Kimball Longhorn wrestlers Connor Cluff and Trey Schindler both placed second at the SPVA Tournament and third at the Chase County Invitational this past week.

Chase County Invite

The senior Cluff competed at 132 pounds and sophomore Trey Schindler at 145 in the Chase County Invitational in Imperial on Saturday.

Cluff defeated Hershey’s Sam Frame by fall at 1:28 to earn third place at 132. Cluff lost to Bayard’s Zachary Araujo to set up the third-place match.

Schindler defeated Hitchcock County’s Kolyn Gaston by fall at 3:00 to also take home a third-place medal at 145. Schindler lost to Chase County’s Kenyan Biesecker to set up his third-place match.

Cluff improved his record to 12-5 on the season while Schindler improved to 10-6.

Each wrestler battled through the brackets to earn their places in the final round of wrestling. Their performances earned Kimball a 12th place overall finish for the tournament with 38 points. Hitchcock County won the championship with 176 points, followed by runner-up Bayard with 170 and third-place Bridgeport with 140.

SPVA Tournament

At the SPVA Conference Tournament Jan. 14 at Hershey, Kimball placed sixth with 34 points. Bridgeport was first with 97 and Sutherland second at 96.5.

Cluff took second place at 132 and registered two pins. In the first place match, junior Jon Peterka of Sutherland, 21-3, earned a 6-2 decision over Cluff.

Schindler placed second at 145 with one pin. In the first place match, junior Hunter Cook of Sutherland, 23-4, beat him by fall at 4:46.

Next up for the Horns are trips to Hemingford on Jan. 22 and Mitchell on Jan. 30.
