Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball’s Longhorn basketball team continued to struggle with two losses in the SPVA Tournament over the past week.
On Monday. Jan. 18, the Longhorns matched up against the Hershey in the first round of the tournament, and the Panthers started fast and racked up a 34-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The scoring slowed down in the second quarter, but the Panthers were still in command and led 48-14 at the half. Hershey added another 21 points in the second half against Kimball’s 5 to earn the 69-19 victory.
Senior Cole Henton led the Longhorns with 11 points.
Kimball next faced Sutherland on Thursday January 21, and again started slowly, getting shut out in the first quarter on their way to a 21-10 deficit at the half. Sutherland piled on 33 points in the second half to cruise to a 30-point, 54-24 victory, ending Kimball’s time in the tournament.
Henton again led the scoring for Kimball with 10 points in the loss, and the Longhorns are still searching for their first win midway through the season.
Their next opportunity comes on Saturday when they host the powerhouse St. Pat’s Irish in Kimball.
