Season Ends For Kimball Girls

Kimball’s Longhorn girls basketball team fell to North Platte St. Pat’s in the first round of the D1-12 Sub district Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 16, ending their difficult season with a 3-13 overall record.

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, the Longhorns hosted the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets, and a tight contest was resolved in the visitors’ favor with a strong fourth quarter.

Pine Bluffs started the contest strong, and opened a 17-10 lead at the end of the first period, but both defenses stiffened in the second quarter, and kept the Longhorns within striking distance at the end of the half down 26-15.

The second half started with both teams turning up the defense and limiting each other’s scoring, with Kimball stopping Pine Bluffs from pulling away even further.

But a strong fourth quarter for the Lady Hornets put the game away and they won 58-41.

Senior Megan Spicer led the Kimball offense with 14 points.

Kimball next traveled to Big Springs for the first round of the D1-12 Sub District Tournament, and faced a tough St. Pat’s team in the first round.

The Longhorns had already lost to St. Pat’s by 34 points at the end of January, and this contest had a similar result with the Lady Irish opening a big lead then cruising through the second half en route to a 67-35 victory, ending the Longhorns season.
