Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball's most recent addition to the police department has always wanted to serve the community in a police officer's capacity, and she has finally taken the leap.
For the next couple of months, Taylor Schmid will buddy up with fellow officers in the field; then, she will attend the police academy in Grand Island in May. When she completes the 16-week program, she will be a "full-fledged officer." She admits that she has "a lot to learn.."
Officer Schmid hopes to make a positive impact.
"I think having some good relationships with some people that I previously supervised will help," she said.
Schmid knows the other side of the legal system as she was the area's probation office for the past three and a half years.
After graduating from Potter-Dix High School in 2012, Schmidt attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a bachelors's degree in criminal justice. She is married with two children and lives in Kimball.
