Florian F. Brown

Florian F. Brown, age 88 of Nebr. City, NE passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at his home.

Florian was born on May 31, 1932 in Rawlins County, KS, the son of Frank J. and Frances (Barenberg) Brown.  He grew up in Kansas and graduated from Atwood, KS High School in 1950. 

In 1952, Florian joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War on the front line.  He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the National Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was honorably discharged in 1954.

On May 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to Janet Marie Stehno in Atwood, KS.  Florian worked in the grain business all of his adult life. He began working in the business in 1957 in Ludell, KS.  He later worked in Limon, CO, Kimball, NE, Fairbury, NE, Utica, NE and finally in Nebraska City, NE.  He worked for DeBruce Grain Co. for over 30 years before retiring in 1997.  He was a board member of the Nebraska Feed & Grain Assoc. from 1986 to 1991.  He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebr. City, the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles Aerie 968 and the American Legion.

He is survived by his children:  Myron Brown of Gibbon, NE, Sharon Brown of Nebr. City, NE, Laure Beckman and husband Charlie of Mound City, KS, Greg Brown and wife Toni of Omaha, NE and Gary Brown and wife Terese of Waverly, NE; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; siblings:  Thelma Palic and husband Paul of Julesburg, CO and Jeannine Curry and husband Don of Clarkston, WA; other family and friends.

Florian was preceded in death by his wife Janet Brown in Jan. 2010; his son Jeff Brown in Oct. 1995; his parents and a sister Rosemarie Kogl and husband Clemens.

A Funeral Mass was planned for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Tom Schultes celebrating the Mass.  Burial was to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Nebr. City with Military Honors conducted by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Talmage American Legion Post.

The family greeted friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday (3/1) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with a Rosary following at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Tabitha Hospice, St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Veterans Memorial Building Renovation Project in Nebr. City.
