Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Banner County
Good morning Banner County! The beautiful spring tease is about to cool off by about a 15/20 degree drop, but it sure has been nice to have such great weather.
Along with that change we will also be springing forward with our clocks beginning on Sunday, March 14th.
This week at the local schoolhouse they will be in school. Not a whole lot of outside activities, great, huh? A heads up for them also, concerning Friday, March 19th. That will be a regular school day with an early 1:00 p.m. dismissal.
We extend our sympathy to the local Olsen families who lost their brother, Bill Olsen this past week. Bill grew up here in Banner County and we are sorry for his passing.
Over the hill in the Bluffs the winters market will take place on Saturday, March 13th out at the Monument Mall from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Skyview Drive-In will present a FREE movie on Thursday, March 11th titled “ The Riot and the Dance: Water” at 6:30 p.m.
At the Nebraska Western Arts Center the latest display in the Main Gallery is “The Hole in the Wall: Traditional Rug Hookers.” This art exhibit displays the work of 20 rug hookers and 134 beautiful rugs. They will be available for your enjoyment through March 28th.
March is the month for Leprechauns and the story behind Saint Patrick patron saint of Ireland who was born in Roman Britian. Kidnapped and enslaved at the age of 16, he escaped and later returned to convert the Irish people to Christianity. He died March 17th, 461, after establishing many churches, schools and monasteries in Ireland.
Many years later it was emigrants, especially those in the U.S., who changed the religious holiday into a more secular one of celebrating all things Irish.
Birthdays this week include: Roger Lee McGowan Jr., Tod Wenger, Mark Knaub, Linda Barrett, and Trenton Elsen. Happy Happy Birthday!
Anniversary congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Baker, Steve Brown and Ryan Norman.
I am sure you are aware of the six books written by Dr. Suess that will no longer be printed. At least two of which received the Caldecott Award.
Someone out there made this decision in part because “people in the books were portrayed as hurtful and wrong.” My personal opinion is that they are the problem.
I will leave you with this quote: “ Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” – Dr. Suess. I feel this way about the loss of these books.
Have a great week and stay safe until next time.
