Former Guard At Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier To Speak
Memorial Day services in Kimball will be Monday, May 31, at the Kimball Cemetery. The 10 a.m. service will include the presentation of the flag, the national anthem and taps.
Last year, the service was short and sweet to abide by COVID-19 rules, but this year the service itself will return to a more familiar format. The traditional hamburger feed after the ceremony, however, will not be held this year.
A special speaker is in store for the ceremony: Thomas W. Tudor.
Tudor is a past board president of the Society of the Honor Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, at Arlington Cemetery, near Washington, D.C.
As a tomb soldier, he was the Commander of the Relief as well as a Sentinel from 1969 to 1970. Originally from Iowa, Tudor resides in Colorado Springs.
Tudor's Tomb Reflections include "Clear sky with a full moon at midnight before the lights were installed. Stunning and unforgettable. Saluting General of the Army, Omar Bradley, at President Eisenhower's funeral and have my salute returned. Walking the mat in the rain with no visitors around."
