Days About To Get Shorter, But Plenty Going On

Good morning Banner County! We started this week out with a better attitude, at least around our house, due mostly to a couple of cooler days and some much needed rain. We had close to an inch of rain Sunday evening with a little small hail.

Starting Monday, June 21st, the days will start to become shorter but I don’t think we will notice that too much for a while yet.

Leading up to the 4th of July, we resume “Concerts in the Park” at the Gering Legion Park on Thursday evening June, 24th at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission for these concerts, so just bring a chair and enjoy!

More music is in the air as Bands on Broadway will entertain folks from 6-9 p.m. at the 18th Street Plaza in Scottsbluff. You need to bring that lawn chair with you here also.

Saturday, June 26th, the Farmers Market will be at the plaza from 8-11 a.m., and throughout the rest of the day there will be a Celtic Gathering out at the Five Rocks Amphitheater. The Celtic Nations will be celebrated with live music, arts and crafts, and Celtic athletics. If you would like more information, please call 633-1808.

Also on the 26th in Potter, the folks will be enjoying the Potter CarBowl from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a car show, duckpin bowling, barbecue, music, crafts and more.

The CarBowl gets under way the night before, starting at 6, with the “Friday Night Rev Up.” You can read much more about the CarBowl on Page A3.

Heading in the other direction, Fort Robinson will be hosting the Fort Market & 100th Anniversary Celebration all day on the 26th.

Our neighbors to the west will have the annual LaGrange Mini Fair on the 26th starting with breakfast in the park and followed by a 5K run, pet parade, Gymkhana, money hunt, corn hole tournament and more. For more information, please call 307-834-2478.

On Monday evening, June 28th, Nebraska native and author James J. Kimble will be speaking about his book “Forge: the Extraordinary Story of the Nebraska Scrap Metal Drive of WWII.” Mr. Kimble will speak at 6:30 p.m and then join a panel of local antique tractor experts in discussion. Theater West will be performing “ Songs for a New World” at WNCC on the 24th at 7:30 p.m. and on the 26th at 2 p.m. The performance “After Part Cabaret” will be at The 16th Empire on the 24th, 26th and 30th at 9:30 a.m. For more information, please call 635-6170.
