RANCH SORTING IN KIMBALL

Cowboys and cowgirls from Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Nebraska sorted steers in Kimball for the Halligan Agency LLC Ranch Sorting.

Kimball was a prelude to ranch sorting at Cheyenne Frontier Days, known as the Big Daddy beginning on Thursday and concluding Aug. 1.

The Big Daddy is also a Cinch-sanctioned event.

Taking home a trophy headstall were weekend highpoint winners in the youth division Grady Watkins from Cheyenne; beginner/rookie division Ciara Coleman from Douglas; Kimball's own Trish Lukassen in the Novice division; and in the Four and Over category was Bob McPherson from Amarillo, Texas.

Level winners were Carly Norberg, Cody Halligan, Doug Pritchett, Rick Foley, Sadie Stec, Bob McPherson, Tommy Roberson, Grady Watkins, Kambree Hottell, Wyatt Christensen, Megan Henderson, Trish Lukassen, Christy Pritchett, Scott Kissinger and Sheri Stec.

The Kimball event included 415 teams with 59 riders. The total jackpot paid out was $12,500.

Two pens of 0-9 steers were running simultaneously, with a total of 17 sets of steers being shuffled in and out to keep them fresh.

Members of the Kimball community supported the event, including the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department, Mark and Marv Nelson, Kimball FFA, and Norma and Frank Stauffer. Managing the back end of the sorting was Virginia Halligan, Brad, Kambree, Clark and Casey Hottell. Matt Bright maintained the sorting pens and Spencer Teasley hauled the cattle.

Helping to sponsor the sorting were Sinclair, Anderson CrudeTrans, Four Rivers, Firstier Bank, Cactus Vet, Curley's, Clean Harbors, Dairy Queen, Points West Bank, Sportman's Liquor, Woody's Liquor and Vince's Corner.
