Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball School Board tended to some general housekeeping issues in a special meeting Monday, July 26.
Mary Lynch Parent-Student, High School Parent-Student, and Staff Handbooks for 2021-22 were approved. Those handbooks had been previously tabled to clear up some errors.
A yearly subscription for $10,000 to Beyond Textbooks was approved by the board, as well as an engagement letter from Rauner & Associates for the 2020-21 audit.
The board and superintendent continue to match board policies with the handbook so that the handbooks mirror the policies; therefore the board approved amending board policies 501.19 and 611.01 dealing with the grading scale and extracurricular activities.
Looking forward to the 2022-23 school year, the board approved the purchase of 210 Chromebooks “pending Emergency Connectivity Fund funding.” Superintendent Trevor Anderson said that if the funding does not come through, the purchase will not happen. The Emergency Connectivity funding came out in the middle of June, and the school quickly applied.
Anderson provided a review of the beginning of school with Aug. 17 designated for new staff, then the 18-20 will be for all staff. Students will arrive on Aug. 23.
Anderson reminded the board that the school format would be regular in-person with no requirement for masks and no requirement for vaccination.
A number of board meetings will be held in August. On the 16th is a budget workshop with Carl Dietz, and Aug. 18 is a work session with the architect.
The regular school board meeting will be on Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kimball County Transit Services building.
