A Memorial Service for Steve Schadegg will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. (CT) at the Trinity Evangelical Free church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Klein and Pastor Daren Popple officiating.

An inurnment will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. (MT) at the Kimball Cemetery, Kimball, Nebraska.

Steven James Schadegg, age 45, of Holdrege, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. He was surrounded by his family after a courageous 2-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer.

Steve was born in Kimball, Nebraska on October 13, 1975, the youngest of six children born to Jack and Janie (Davison) Schadegg. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1994 and pursued his undergrad at University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his Master's Degree in Psychology at University of Central Oklahoma.

While living in Oklahoma, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Kara Bateman and on February 14, 2010, they were married. He was added with Kara's two children, Cory and Shelby, to create their family. On May 6, 2013, their family would be made complete with the arrival of a son, Mathew John. They would eventually make their home in Holdrege, where Steve was employed at Allmand Brothers as a Master Scheduler. Most recently, until his health would no longer allow, he worked in Minden, Nebraska, at Royal Engineered Composites as a Production Support Coordinator.

Steve was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed playing and teaching sports to Mathew; and actively watching Husker Football and Volleyball. He had a passion for coaching Mathew and his teams in T-ball, basketball, and in life. He was a very dedicated, incredible and loving father. In recent years, he welcomed the opportunity to engage with others in a healthy dialogue and learn from them. He showed his strength of character with his transparency of his journey during his illness, always giving the glory to Jesus through it all.

Steve put on the travel agent hat, as he pursued opportunities to create many lasting memories with his family; traveling and visiting over 30 states by plane, train, and automobile. He was quick to watch the weather and post on Facebook, to warn you all of the impeding weather.

Steve had a passion for Meteorology and storm chasing. In 2017, he became a certified storm spotter at the Phelps County Emergency Management Agency. He was a past team leader and member at South Central Nebraska CERT until his passing.

Steve loved to bake cookies, which fell in line with his love of sweets. A bag of M&M's could always be found next to his chair. He also had a love of photography which turned into a business for several years.

Steve was also a dedicated member of the Kearney Evangelical Free Church. During his battle with cancer, he never wavered in his faith in God. His steadfast love for Jesus, family, and friends was evident and an encouragement to everyone who knew him.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; Jack and Janie Schadegg.

Steve is lovingly remembered by; his wife, Kara Schadegg; and son, Mathew Schadegg both of Holdrege; step-son, Cory Koetter of Colby, Kansas; step-daughter, Shelby Koetter of Downs, Kansas; step-mother, Carol Schadegg of Paulden, Arizona; two sisters: Laurie Schadegg of Portland, Oregon; and Brenda (Jeff) Smith of Sidney, Nebraska; three brothers: Paul (Jennifer) Schadegg of Olathe, Kansas; Scott (Terri) Schadegg of Fort Collins, Colorado; and John (Jill) Schadegg of Casper, Wyoming; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial book signing will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
