Coyotes Make Some Hay

Potter-Dix’s Coyote football team continued its success with a 51-12 win over Hay Springs Friday night at Combs Field in Potter.

After deferring to the second half, the Coyotes kicked off and put the Hawks deep in their own territory to start the game. After a few unsuccessful running attempts, the Hawks connected on a long pass to get the ball into Coyote territory. But the Potter-Dix defense stiffened and forced a turnover on downs.

On the Coyotes’ first play from scrimmage, sophomore quarterback Brayden Kasten found junior Luke Kasten on a short pass play, but Kasten was able to make a cut and go right through the Hay Springs defense 50 yards for a touchdown, giving the Coyotes a 6-0 lead after the point after attempt was missed.

Both offense struggled through the first period, with Potter-Dix holding a 6-0 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the beginning of the second quarter, the Coyotes offense finally looked to get in rhythm, and senior Thomas Muldoon pulled down a big catch to go 39 yards for a touchdown, and after a good point after attempt, the Coyotes led 14-0 and were on their way to an easy victory.

Hay Springs managed just two scores, both by freshman Dylan Raymer, in the loss. Potter-Dix scored seven touchdowns, two rushing and five receiving.

Brayden Kasten went 7-for-12 for 176 yards and 4 touchdowns in the air while sophomore Jaxen Buettenback had 10 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown to lead the rushers.

Sophomore Brandon Paxton had two touchdown catches in the win, while Luke Kasten also threw for a touchdown and caught a 50 yard touchdown pass to open the scoring.

The undefeated Coyotes travel to Harrisburg on Friday to match up with the winless Banner County Wildcats.
