Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
A reader recently wrote in to the Observer with this question: Why did the Kimball City Council not support Tiffany LaBeau for her human solution to the feral cat problem?
That's an excellent question, and it was somewhat confusing at an earlier meeting. At the Oct. 5 City Council meeting, Tiffany LaBeau was on the agenda to seek resources to start a program in which feral cats would be caught, spayed or neutered, and then released.
Before the meeting, it was suggested that she request Keno Funds for the program. Although the City Council did not approve the Keno request at that time, they asked her to apply for nonprofit status.
LaBeau returned to the Oct. 19 meeting after having applied for nonprofit organization status. The City Council did provide $2,800 of Keno money to her nonprofit feral cat program. The city has no ties to the program, and this is a one time only contribution.
At this time, according to LaBeau, the first appointment for cats to be spayed/neutered is set for Nov. 5. She will take four females to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
When asked why she wanted to start the program, LaBeau said, "I wanted to start the release program to clean up the town of Kimball and to help those who do not have a voice."
