Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Here Comes 'Christmas in Kimball'

The local Christmas season arrives officially Saturday, Nov. 27, with a lineup of festivities four full weeks before the holiday.

Some changes are in store, such as “Christmas in Kimball” events being featured on restaurant placements and new appearance locations for Santa, but organizer Sharon Williams told the Observer that folks can expect to enjoy lots of tradition.

Here’s this year’s schedule from Santa’s Helpers and the Parade of Lights committee:

Saturday, Nov. 27

• Holiday Craft-Aganza & Handcrafted Christmas Decor Silent Auction, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sagebrush.

• Small Business Saturday at Kimball Public Library, 9 to 10 a.m. for Friends of the Library members and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the general public.

Kimball Parade of Lights, “Hometown Christmas on Chestnut Street,” starting at 5 p.m. downtown. Santa will appear at Nebraska Coffee after the parade.

• Registration opens for the annual decoration contest. To register a home or business, call Sharon Williams at 308-235-5259.

Saturday, Dec. 4

• Breakfast with Santa, 9 to 11 a.m., Kimball library.

Thursday, Dec. 9

• Decoration contest registration deadline.

Saturday, Dec. 11

• Open House, Kimball Visitor Center, 2 to 5 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 10-12

• Christmas Movie Celebration, “Ron’s Gone Wrong,” at Goodhand Theatre. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Dec. 10 and 11, and 2 p.m. Dec. 12.

Thursday, Dec. 16-17

• Decoration contest judging, 6 to 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, organizers seek a helping hand with decorating light poles, the soup supper, graham cracker house decorating for kids, and selling live Christmas trees and wreaths.
