Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Coyote basketball team made a trip down to Caliche, Colo., on Saturday, and came away with a convincing 67-51win over the Buffaloes.
The teams played the first quarter tight, with lots of defensive pressure and turnovers limiting the scoring. Potter-Dix managed a 12-9 lead after one period, then went on to score 20 points in the second period to bring a 32-22 advantage into the halftime. Both teams played a solid third period on offense and defense, both scoring 17 points. But Caliche was not able to score enough to stem the tide, and the Coyotes went on for the 67-51 win.
Junior Luke Kasten was fantastic on offense and defense for the Coyotes, scoring 28 points and grabbing 21 rebounds in the victory. Thomas Muldoon and Gunnar Oleson were also in double-digits with 11 and 14 points respectively.
Potter-Dix finishes the December portion of their schedule at 5-0, and the team continues to impress with their strong play and athletes.
Coyote Girls
Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyote basketball team was able to get another win early on in December when they hosted the Banner County Lady Wildcats on Friday. The Lady Coyotes started strong, using their defense to totally disrupt Banner County’s rhythm and only only a few low percentage shots in the first quarter. Meanwhile, the Lady Coyotes worked the ball and found good looks, and built a 22-7 lead after the first quarter. The scoring slowed for both teams, but Banner was unable to make up any ground and the Lady Coyotes went into the halftime leading 30-13.
Banner was unable to change the flow of the game in the second half, still struggling to score while Potter-Dix continued with their strong play. The game ended with a 50-to-24 win for the Lady Coyotes, their second of the season.
On Saturday, the Lady Coyotes traveled down to Caliche, Colo., to take on the Lady Buffs, and after a tight first quarter, Caliche led by two points, 10-8. But the Lady Buffs offense was able to break out in the second period, scoring 22 points to give the home team a 32-18 lead at the half.
Both teams played well in the second half, but the scoring surge needed by the Lady coyotes never happened, and Caliche put the game away by a score of 55-38.
Potter-Dix gets through the December part of their schedule at 2-4 and next faces Morrill at home on January 3.
