Kimball's Lusche Puts Up 13 Against Chase County

Chase County 75,

Kimball 25

The Saturday, Jan. 8, game saw a young Kimball Longhorn team come out and get a few early baskets but were not able to keep pace with the Chase County Longhorns.

Scoring the first 2 points in the second quarter the young Kimball team found themselves down 10-20. However, the next 7:50 of the second quarter and into the first six minutes of the third quarter saw the team go on a scoring drought and were outscored 35-2 in that stretch.

Chase County did well pressuring our players and getting them to rush their passes and make us be too indecisive with the ball, causing turnovers early in our possessions. This is something that we will have to get better at moving forward as our schedule does not get any easier and we know that our players are capable of raising their game.

We did have a few new players join us on the court in JV and varsity this past Saturday, which should bring more help with our inside presence.

Anthony Tovar and Brandon Paxton joined us over the break in practice and have provided us with more length, which helps us prepare better for bigger stronger teams.

Anthony, a senior that transferred before the beginning of the year, will be looked upon to come off the bench and provide us with some good minutes while giving us a larger target inside and protecting our rim on the defensive side.

Unfortunately, Brandon will not be eligible to play varsity ball this season as he is in the 90-day transfer protocol, but he’ll provide us some good minutes in JV and possibly allow us to increase our JV quarters, giving him and the rest of our players more game experience.

Kyler Lusche lead us in scoring with 13 points followed by Wyatt Cords 8 and Anthony Tovar 4. Others contributing stats: Kyler Lusche (6 REB, 2 STL, 2 BLK, 56% FG%, 60% FT%), Wyatt Cords (4 REB, 1 AST, 43% FG%, 100% FT%), Kyle Fraser (1 REB, 1 STL, 2 BLK), Bransyn Kiefer (2 REB, 1 AST), Conner Deboodt (3 REB, 2 AST), Landon Norberg (1 REB) , Anthony Tovar (3 REB, 5 BLK, 100% FG%)

Team Categories we were able to outperform our opponent were in FT% (+22.5%), DReb (+9), and Blocks (+8).
