Kimball Getting New Electrical Meters

The Kimball City Council convened at 6 p.m. Jan 18 for its regular meeting. The council voted to change the meeting date to once a month. Meetings will be on the third Tuesday for the next couple of months until there is more on their agenda.

Kimball Library Director Amber Sweetland gave her annual report to the board highlighting youth and teen programs, active attendance at the library and computer usage. In addition, the library has 26 periodical and two newspaper subscriptions.

Matt Shoup from the electric department gave a presentation on the Vision AMR Metering package. The council had budgeted and voted to approved the citywide purchase of new technologically advanced water and electric meters. The city had previously conducted a trial of 127 water and electric meters. The new electrical meters will allow individual consumers to see their live electric usage.

The product should arrive by May and will be installed throughout the summer. The total price tag for the new metering system is a little over $400,000.

The council also looked at some possible equipment for snow removal in the future, but no decisions were made.

In other business, bids to make repairs at the Kimball Recycling Center were received from Johnson Construction and Roy's Landscaping and Sprinkler System. An insurance claim has already been submitted and the council moved to accept the bid from Johnson Construction. About $25,000 in repairs need to be made to a wall that a truck damaged.

City Manager Annette Brower reported that Clean Harbors Inc. has closed on the purchase of the old IOS/Castronics facility in east Kimball.

She also said that plans for this spring are on track for the missile project.
