Here Comes The Banner County Wrecking Crew!

Banner County

Well good morning Banner County, friends near and far. I hope this morning finds you somewhere nice, warm and windless.

After a lifetime in Nebraska I am accustomed to the ups and downs of our weather, but I still don’t like it. Last weekend two important events happened that I completely forgot about. Not to mention my not mentioning the time change recently.

Anyway, last Sunday, the 20th of March was the Spring Equinox and then the 21-22nd was Maslenitsa or Komodety- the day of the vernal equinox (when the day and night are equal in time ).

Did anyone slip over to Carhenge to see if the sun came through the center at the right time? I, of course, did not because I did not remember what was happening until it was over. Go figure.

Well, with spring on the way as we move into our new week here at home, we find school dismissed early tomorrow, Friday, March 25th, at 1:00 p.m.

Track season is underway also and there will be a meet at Morrill on the 26th beginning at 9 a.m. for the high school competitors. Beware of them out on the roads here around town for their practices.

There will be a fun and most likely very entertaining basketball game on Monday, the 28th. Donkey Basketball will take place at the Kimball High School gym. The doors open at 6 p.m. for a sloppy joe dinner served by the Kimball trap team, and profits will go toward a new clay thrower.

It’s something I and my sisters spent many a Sunday afternoon doing in Dix as kids. The game will start at either 6:30 or 7:30 p.m. (2 times are listed) and I believe there will be two competitions and a third game for the final playoff.

Banner County School teachers are one of the first teams to compete, and their team is named Banner County Wrecking Crew.

MAC music competition will be the following day in Leyton, and although I do not know what teachers are involved in the sport, the previous night I am assuming that it is not the music teacher! Good luck to all of you and have fun!

Over the hill, the WNCC Foundation will be celebrating 50 years of service by hosting an event at the Gering Civic Center. On Thursday, March 24th beginning at 5:30 p.m. there will be entertainment, hors d’oeuvers, dessert, cash bar, and a silent auction. The speaker will be Lucas Simianer and the doors will close at 7:45 p.m.

Earlier that day there will be a Job and Internship Fair held at WNCC, 1601 E 27th St. in Scottsbluff. This will take place from 2-5 p.m.

The Midwest Theater is a great place to be and their next film will be Cyrano, playing March 25th, and 26th at 7:30 p.m. and as a matinee on the 27th at 1:30 p.m. This is about a small person with a big desire to win the love of a tall person.

All for now, have a great week and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
