Good morning!

And here is to a week of county fairs and balloons in the air!

Hot again, but not quite into the three digits.

The Old West Balloon Fest started yesterday, August 10th, with a night glow out at WNCC and they continue Friday and Saturday with mass ascension events both days, 5:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Mitchell airfield.

On the 13th there will also be a craft fair and cornhole tournament in downtown Mitchell. The evening of the 13th the ballooners will finish up with a night glow at Five Rocks in Gering between 6 and 9:30 p.m.

On Thursday the 11th there will be the second annual Wine Walk between 4 and 7 p.m. in downtown Scottsbluff in conjunction with the Balloon Fest. Several business are involved with seven varieties of wine for you to sample.

Also on the 11th, there will be a demonstration of the basics of canning, dehydration and freezing of food in the Gering Library beginning at 6 p.m. More information is available at 436-7433.

If you happened to attend the fair exhibits in Mitchell this past week, you were able to see some examples of awesome canned goods for sure!

Other area fairs include Box Butte in Alliance ending the 13th – bbcofair.com for more information.

The one fair of most interest to many of us is the Kimball/Banner, which began the 8th and has sale day slated for Monday, August 15th.

There will be two PRCA rodeos, one on Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. Other activities include mini bull riding, exhibits, competitions, calf catching, and free burgers on Sunday at 5 p.m.

More county fair fun may be found if you are in Chappell, Deuel County, Aug. 11-13.

Alliance will host the DISCover United Way Disc Golf Tournament at the Rolling Prairie Disc Golf Course on the 13th, http://www.uwwn.org.

August 15-21st the High Plains Riot will take place at the fair grounds in Mitchell. Motorcycles, rat rods, hot rods and customs will be cruising and performing. Call 308-641-3697.

This week is your last chance to enjoy performances at the Post Playhouse in Chadron.
