Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Good morning, Banner County. With a little rain over the weekend, Monday morning started out cloudy and cool.
Kimball received over an inch and since it was fair time that came as no surprise to me. Seemed to happen on schedule when our kids were all involved.
Speaking of kids, school starts here – Today, Thursday, August 18th! Grades K-12 will be loading up and some will be walking, so be aware.
Bands on Bordeaux will still take place that evening in Chardon from 6-9 p.m. at Railroad Park, but I think Bands on Broadway is finished for the season. I guess if you go over and they are at the 18th Street Plaza then you will know they have not quite finished up.
A Park Ranger will be available on Friday, August 19th out at the Scotts Bluff National Monument if you would like to attend one of the Emigrant Experience sessions. They will be on site between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Traveling to Ashland this weekend? Stargazing at the Eugene T Mahoney State Park will be from 9 to 11:30 p.m. The event is free with a Nebraska Games and Park permit.
Although school starts here on the 18th, I imagine there will be at least nine students who are looking forward to “going back” for more than one reason. There is a group that is headed to Snowy Range and Brooklyn Lake Campground the 19th to the 21st for an Adventure Seeking Backpacking Trip. Wow, what a way to start the school year.
The Buckboard Therapeutic Riding Academy will be celebrating an anniversary on Friday the 19th. They are located at 140500 14th Street in Gering, so stop by if you get a chance and tell them congratulations.
On August 20th, Saturday, the folks in Bushnell will be celebrating Bushnell Day 2022 with various activities all day if you are up that direction.
Folks in Morrill will host their Farmers Market on the 23rd from 3-6 p.m. at the FOMO Park, and I imagine that is getting pretty good about now. I know some local gardeners have been bring in some nice veggies.
Back at school on Wednesday, August 24th, the FFA students will attend Westco FFA Field Day beginning at 9 a.m. and the Pre-K kids will be attending their first day of pre-school.
While here at home I am still trying to keep the lawn alive and kill the weeds.
The next regular Banner County Commissioners meeting will be on August 30th at 8:45 a.m. with the Planning Commission at 8:30 a.m.
Well, that is it for now. Have a great week and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
