Young Kimball Girls Basketball In A 'Growing Year'

The Kimball Longhorns girls basketball hosts Hershey this Friday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. before closing out the 2022 portion of its season 4 p.m. Monday at Potter Dix. Both are non-district games.

The Lady Longhorns are 0-4 on the season this past week’s losses to visiting Perkins County, 63-12, and at Morrill, 60-26 the next day.

“It is clear that it will be a growing year for us,” coach Jaclyn Burks told the Observer. “We are young and I am asking quite a few underclassmen to play at the varsity level. They are stepping up and in a few years, if they continue to work, will be a dominant team in our area.

“Although we lost quite a few seniors last year, the team chemistry has never been higher. This group of young women work hard and they are so coachable. The atmosphere in practices is fun and high energy.

“We will continue to work through our weaknesses – and as someone very wise has told me, wins matter the most at the end of the season.”

Against Morrill, junior Grace Anderson led the Longhorns with 9 points. Also scoring were freshman Addy Olson (6 points), junior Julie Winstrom (5), freshman Josephine Perry (3), junior Jasmine Gawith (2) and sophomore Rachel Berger (1).

Kimball’s statistics were not immediately available for the Perkins County game.
